Notes:
Vina Izadi is based in Villabuena in Rioja Alavesa, the highest part of Rioja. It was founded in 1987 by Gonzalo Anton in an effort to ‘satisfy the needs of our friends over a meal’ as they put it. This has clearly gone from strength to strength as the wines they now produce are really modern wines in an international style, but which remain true to their Riojan roots.
The 2006 wine has very intense aromas of red berry, plum fruit and cedar wood, with the red fruit coming through very nicely on the palate, balanced by a clean floral structure and nicely rounded tannins. This is certainly a wine that can be drunk now, but will happily keep for another couple of years at least. The tannins are mellow, the fruit beautifully integrated with subtle vanilla and mocha notes.
