Tasting Notes:
This wine is made from vines less than twenty years of age. It is strong on Grenache and Mourvedre and does not see any new oak. A lovely wine in a vintage that turned out to be quite classic. It has the deep colour of perfectly ripe Grenache, without being inky black. The nose shows aromas of very ripe, almost stewed fruit. It has a light smokiness and a slight hint of sweetness that makes it very approachable, but without any heaviness. Among all these aromas it's a note of cooked prune that returns after much aeration.
ROBERT PARKER 'One of the few Chateauneuf du Pape estates to produce a second wine (a la most Bordeaux chateaux), Vieux Telegraphe's 2008 Telegramme Chateauneuf du Pape (100% Grenache) is a delicious, up-front, fruity, medium-bodied, soft effort displaying lots of herb-tinged strawberry and kirsch characteristics. It should drink well for 3-4 years.
Wine Spectator 93 Points: 'A fresh, pure, silky style, with red currant, licorice and shiso leaf notes gliding over the long, supple, minerally finish. Textbook for the vintage, with the fruit and minerality stretching out at the end. Drink now through 2017.'
