Notes: (new vintage picture to be uploaded soon)
Each year, the Peter Lehmann winemakers carefully select the very best Cabernet Sauvignon of vintage for blending with premium parcels of Merlot, Shiraz and Malbec to create this superb, multi-dimensional wine of great distinction.
Dense black centre with a dark red/garnet rim. An exciting mélange of mixed spice, wild violets, hints of mint and black currants. The richness and depth of the fruit is a seamless blend. A wine of great power and length, it shows a superb balance between the fruit and the fine-grained tannins. A distinguished wine of great dignity and is only a very limited release. Fermented and thence matured for 18 months in new French oak hogshead.
For his style, integrity and skill as a winemaker, Peter Lehmann has come to be known as ‘Mentor’ by many of today’s Australian winemakers. His conviction that the Barossa was capable of making the best wines in the world extended far beyond Shiraz – he’s always called it a ‘Garden of Eden’, a winemaker’s paradise. When it came to selecting a wine to dedicate to Peter Lehmann, it was not without a sense of irony that we chose Barossa Cabernet.
Food pairing: Mentor is an ideal accompaniment for rich duck, goose and game dishes. It is superb with oxtail, braised lamb shanks and wonderful with a fine aged cheddar.
