Notes:
Alpha Zeta was started in 1999 when David Gleave and New Zealand winemaker, Matt Thompson, set out to produce a range of modern, fruit-forward wines from the hills outside Verona. Their aim was to work closely with the local growers to obtain high quality grapes by reducing yields and harvesting later in the season. The grapes are picked in mid-September and left to dry in specially ventilated rooms until the end of January, when they were destemmed and crushed. This Amarone was matured in oak for 18 months, lightly fined with egg whites, and then bottled.
Composed of 70% Corvina Veronese, 25% Rondinella, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, this aromatic Amarone displays bold notes of black cherry, plum, and fruit cake on the nose. Full bodied and rich on the palate, pronounced flavors of cherry, vanilla, and coffee lead to a lingering finish. It is an ideal pairing for roasted red meat entrees.
