Notes:
Graham Beck is a giant of the South African wine scene and has led the country's thundering success since the end of Apartheid in 1994, a year that saw Nelson Mandela toast his inauguration as President with a flute of Beck's Brut NV. Fizz remains a key part of the Beck portfolio and the sparkling wines are rightly recognised as among the best in the New World. Based in Robertson, a second cellar in Franschhoek has been built to further extend the company's potential. Pieter 'Bubbles' Ferreira retains overall control of the winemaking with the talented Erika Obermeyer and Irene Waller heading up the Franschhoek and Robertson wineries respectively.
Tasting Notes:
A full 100% Merlot made at Graham Beck's Cellar in Franschhoek from two selected vineyards. The juice was fermented on the skins for seven days to ensure optimum flavour. Fermentation in stainless steel and 12 months French Oak maturation. Fresh red berries, violets and fruitcake spiciness on the nose. Lots of berries, spice and cedar oak flavours on the palate and elegant ripe tannins on the finish. Excellent with a sumptuous piece of fillet, hearty bredies or roast lamb.
