Bottle Description
Notes:
Peller Family Icewine is a rare dessert wine produced from the juice of naturally frozen grapes that have been picked in the middle of a cold Canadian winter. At 43 degrees, the Niagara Peninsula is within the same latitudinal range as Southern France, Rioja in Spain, Chianti Classico in Italy and Oregon. The Niagara Peninsula is the only place in the world where every single year the summers are so warm they can grow fine wine grapes, but the winters are cold enough to make Icewine (but never so cold that the vines do not survive.) To make this amazing wine naturally frozen Riesling grapes are hand harvested from Niagara-on-the-Lake vineyards at -10°C. The grapes are pressed frozen, releasing only one drop of pure extract from each grape. The fermentation is performed at a cool temperature to retain fruit concentration then aged in stainless steel.
Tasting Notes:
Peller Riesling has a delicate straw yellow colour with an intriguing aroma of lemon drops, quince, Bartlett pear and golden raspberries, with a touch of floral honey. On the palate this Icewine displays a luscious yet elegant mouth-feel with fruit flavours of lemon, melon, papaya, mango and orange. It has a refreshing acidity and a long length. Best enjoyed when served chilled at 8 - 10°C.
Food Matching:
Peller Riesling Icewine is a wonderful accompaniment to food, complimenting dishes such as paté or with foie gras for a mouth sensation. Also a wonderful companion to salty appetizer or cheese (such as mild blue cheeses) and an absolute must with fruit based desserts!
