La Giustiniana produces two single vineyard Gavis, each unoaked so that the character of the vineyard shines through in the wine. The Lugarara is the most open of the two, as befits the sandier soil in the vineyard, but it has good richness on the palate and nicely moderated acidity.
Enrico Tomalino has transformed La Giustiniana in the past couple of years, and this outstanding estate is now producing Gavi of remarkable character and originality. Gavi is often over-hyped and expensive and can lack body and fruit to balance the natural acidity of the Cortese grape. However, this wine has the body and fruit character to balance the acidity and is a great example of how good Gavi di Gavi can be in the right hands and with careful vinification.
The wine is fresh and clean with good concentration on the palate with mineral and citrus notes. It has good richness and nicely moderated acidity. We love it here and sell to a number of Jersey's best restaurants.
Food Pairings:
It goes well with starters, fish, shellfish, fish or shellfish first courses, but for its characteristics it goes well also with fried food and mushrooms. To be served at 10-12°C.
