Restrained, mineral style focussed on elegance with a white fruit character, some oatmeal and some complexity gained from percipient applied wood. Selected from 8 small parcels of Chardonnay.?
The wine rested in barrel for eleven months. A small number of artisanal coopers were selected, all from Burgundy and only French oak was chosen. Importantly, each clone and soil type was micro vinified as separate batches. Each batch used an algorithm that we have developed to ascertain which coopers work best and how many new and used barrels are utilised. Overall, the average in 2019 was 53% new oak; 100% 228 l barrels.
Jancis Robinson 17/20 - "Full-throttle nose offers a broad spectrum of ripe Chardonnay fruit with massive finesse on the palate and just the right amount of acidity. It’s not as austere as the Mount Mary Yarra Chardonnay 2019 I happen to have to hand, and may not last as long, but it is beautifully made with both ripeness and restraint in evidence. Comfortingly long. And it’s not a copy of burgundy! It’s its own expression, of Elgin Chardonnay. 2021-2026." - Jancis Robinson MW.
