Bottle Description

The 12 hectares domaine exists since the seventeenth century, and has been run by Charles Ballot since 2000. The approach in the vineyards is lutte raisonée, but Charles is currently seriously considering a move to organic viticulture in the future. The fruit is hand-harvested, 100% de-stemmed, fermented with natural yeasts and the whites are raised in 10 to 30% new wood for approximately 12 months and then racked for a further 6 months’ ageing in tank. It is bottled after a very light filtration. Reds are matured in oak for 18 months and are bottles with no filtration. This is an excellent source of serious, fine and reliable wines in Meursault. Their village Meursault is from a total of just under 2ha of Chardonnay vines with an average age of 33 years. TASTING: Dry and creamy, the nose has aromas of almond, hazelnut and butter. The palate is rich and generous with ripe fruit, good minerality and oaky texture to provide the backbone to this elegant white.
