We are very pleased to announce the start of the highly anticipated 2020 Bordeaux En-Primeur campaign, one which promises to be as exciting as it is different in our new post-brexit, mid-covid world.
Not having had the chance to travel to Bordeaux to taste we are very reliant on several key factors namely; pedigree, reputation, consistency and critics and the critics seem to like it.
Desmirail was classified a 3rd Grand Cru Classé as part of the 1855 classification. The wine is the result of a parcel of exceptional terroir within the Margaux appellation, which it represents perfectly with its delicate balance. Vinification is carried out using modern techniques and equipment, but with an overarching respect for tradition. This results in a wine that can be enjoyed in its youth, but which also has a tremendous capacity to improve with age. Strict grape selection and carefully adapted maturation methods are both key to making Château Desmirail into the Grand Vin it is.
JAMES SUCKLING 93-94 Points
15 Apr, 2021 – "A medium-to full-bodied red with blackberry, chocolate, walnut and spice character. Creamy and juicy tannins and a long, flavorful finish."
DECANTER 90 points
Tasted by Jane Anson (at Primeur week tastings in Bordeaux, 01 May 2021)
"Smoked oak on the nose. This shows elegant fruits, with a silky texture, and a deftness to the winemaking. It dips through the mid palate however and could do with a little more generosity to the fruits to really carry off its intention. A yield of 40hl/ha. Tasted twice. Drinking Window 2025 - 2038."
JANCIS ROBINSON 16 points
Drink: 2028 - 2035
Full bottle 1,247 g. Cask sample. 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot.
"Inky core like elderberry juice with purplish rim. Dark, ripe and a little charry on the nose. Black fruit and oaky aroma but not sweet. Fresh and scented on the palate, juicy even with the tight, dry tannin corset. Perhaps a little light in the middle but smooth on the finish."
