We are very pleased to announce the start of the highly anticipated 2020 Bordeaux En-Primeur campaign, one which promises to be as exciting as it is different in our new post-brexit, mid-covid world.
Not having had the chance to travel to Bordeaux to taste we are very reliant on several key factors namely; pedigree, reputation, consistency and critics and the critics seem to like it.
Château Marquis de Terme is owned by Famille Sénéclauze, this 35 ha property produces on average 13,000 cases per year. Located in the centre of the Margaux appellation, the property shares a similar climate to that enjoyed by the Médoc: maritime, with the Gironde estuary & the Bay of Biscay combining to act as a climate regulator & the coastal pine forests sheltering the vines from the westerly & north-westerly winds. The vineyards (Cabernet Sauvignon 55%; Merlot 35%; Cabernet Franc 3%; Petit Verdot 7%) lie on gravelly-clay soils. Vinification includes approximately 18 months' wood ageing, 40% new oak. It is classified as a '4ème Cru Classé'.

"Blackberry and blackcurrant with some licorice and tar on the nose. It’s medium-to full-bodied with intense yet polished tannins and a long, beautiful finish. The quality of the tannins is an upgrade here."

Tasted by Jane Anson (at Primeur week tastings in Bordeaux, 01 May 2021)
"Cassis, bilberry, chocolate, mocha and pepper. Good, austere, tight, mint leaf on the close of play. This has depth of expression, the fruit has been carefully extracted to minimise what are still pretty ferocious tannins. A yield of 30hl/ha. Tasted three times and was impressed each time. Important to note that Marquis de Terme is one of the few Left Bank estates that does a final adjustment to the blend before bottling, although typically changes are only made to the second wine so this is likely to be at least extremely close to what will go into the final bottle. Drinking Window 2028 - 2044."

"60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. Vines 35 years old.
Very dark with purplish rim. Intense aroma of cassis and damson and although the notes of charry oak are evident, they blend in well with the fruit. This smells ripe and fragrant but not overly sweet, quite spicy. On the palate, the fruit is not quite as intense, the sinewy tannins and the oak dominating at the moment, leaving a dry, slightly charry aftertaste. A little bit severe."
