We are very pleased to announce the start of the highly anticipated 2020 Bordeaux En-Primeur campaign, one which promises to be as exciting as it is different in our new post-brexit, mid-covid world.

Not having had the chance to travel to Bordeaux to taste we are very reliant on several key factors namely; pedigree, reputation, consistency and critics and the critics seem to like it.

Chateau Poesia was purchased by Helene Garcin and Patrice Leveque in early 2014. The estate was formerly known as Chateau Haut Villet. The name, Chateau Poesia, which is translated into Poet, comes from the families property in Mendoza Argentina where they produce wine from 13 hectares of old vine, un-grafted Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, planted in 1935. Helene Garcin continues to expand her vineyards. She also owns several other Right Bank estates including Chateau Barde Haut in Saint Emilion and Clos LEglise in Pomerol. Helene Garcin was previously in charge of the families 2 properties in the Pessac Leognan appellation, Haut Bergey and Chateau Branon. Her brother oversees those estates today.

Chateau Poesia is located in the eastern portion of Saint Emilion on a well elevated, limestone plateau. The vineyards have good neighbors with Valandraud, Chateau Peby Faugeres and Chateau Fleur Cardinale close by.

The 9.7 hectare Right Bank vineyard of Chateau Poesia is planted to 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard is well situated on a high plateau. Their terroir is clay and limestone soils. While their Right Bank estate has a total of 13.2 cultivated hectares. There are 9.7 hectares of vines located in St. Emilion and 4.5 hectares situated in Cotes de Castillon. The vines are average close to 30 years of age. However there are old vines. In fact, some of the vines are more than 70 years of age!

The vineyard of Chateau Poesia is planted to a vine density of 6,500 vines per hectare. Future plantings are being done at about 7,200 vines per hectare. One of the first things Helene Garcin did after buying the estate was to remove more than 7 hectares of vines. The land will remain fallow for at least 5 years before being replanted. All vineyard work is done using only sustainable vineyard farming techniques.

Chateau Poesia made its debut with the difficult 2013 vintage. The yields for the first vintage were incredibly low at close to 8 hectoliters per hectare. After the purchase a complete renovation of the property took place, first in the vineyard, followed by the cellars and chateau.

JAMES SUCKLING 95-96 points
"Lots of blueberry and blackberry with crushed-stone and limestone undertones. It’s full-bodied with firm, silky tannins that are wonderfully polished."

DECANTER 91 points
Tasted by Jane Anso(at Primeur week tastings in Bordeaux, 01 May 2021)
"Same owners as Barde-Haut on slightly cooler clay-limestone soils, the tannins are a little angular, but there is a ton of liquorice, damson and violet notes. It is poised even though broad-shouldered. 60% new oak. Drinking Window 2022 - 2038."
