Description

We are very pleased to announce the start of the highly anticipated 2020 Bordeaux En-Primeur campaign, one which promises to be as exciting as it is different in our new post-brexit, mid-covid world.

Not having had the chance to travel to Bordeaux to taste we are very reliant on several key factors namely; pedigree, reputation, consistency and critics and the critics seem to like it.

_____

Located in the appellation of Haut-Medoc overlooking the Gironde Estuary, Chateau Sociando-Mallet was first owned by an aristocrat, Sieur Sociando. When the property passed to the Mallet family in the 19th century, they added their name. Today, owner Jean Gautreau has passionately worked for 40 years to renew the estate, now covering 85 hectares of beautiful gravel terroir. Planted with 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the vines of Sociando-Mallet have an average age of 30 plus years.

JAMES SUCKLING 93-94 Points
"Blackberries, blackcurrants and flowers on the nose and palate. Medium body, firm tannins and a long, fresh finish. Linear, refined tannins. Subtle now."

DECANTER 92 points
Tasted by Jane Anson - Part of Best Médoc & Haut-Médoc, Moulis & Listrac 2020 wines tasted en primeur.
"Attractive spicy nose, plenty of Médoc character with layers of tannins. There is punch and personality here, and within the vintage it definitely has plenty to offer. Not as much depth as in certain vintages for sure, but this has depth, needs time to soften in the glass. Well made and well balanced with good potential for ageing. Touches of violet on the finish although acidities are pretty high. A yield of 42hl/ha. Drinking Window 2027 - 2044."
