Description

We are very pleased to announce the start of the highly anticipated 2020 Bordeaux En-Primeur campaign, one which promises to be as exciting as it is different in our new post-brexit, mid-covid world.

Not having had the chance to travel to Bordeaux to taste we are very reliant on several key factors namely; pedigree, reputation, consistency and critics and the critics seem to like it.

_____

Château Lagrange was for many years perceived as a tired, underperforming St Julien château that was unworthy of its 3ème Cru Classé status.

In 1983 it was purchased by the Japanese Suntory Group which set about renovating the vineyards and the winery. Lagrange rose to become a model estate and even today few Bordeaux properties can match Lagrange, with its huge barrique chais and its state of the art cuvier with its 56 temperature-controlled, stainless steel cuvées.

The second wine of Château Lagrange was first produced in 1985. Sourced from 30 years old vines, it receives the same care as the Grand Vin, with a search for maturity and concentration in the vineyard, a plot vinification and ageing adapted to its tannic structure.

JAMES SUCKLING 92-93 Points
28 Apr, 2021 – "A firm, silky red with blackcurrants and spices. Medium-bodied and creamy. Pretty finish. Beautiful for a second wine."

DECANTER 88 points
Tasted by Jane Anson (at Primeur week tastings in Bordeaux, 01 May 2021)
"The weight of this wine does a good job of showing what many of us look for in St-Julien - namely balance and elegance without losing power. The fruit though is a little underpowered, certainly compared to the excellent first wine in the vintage. Drinking Window 2023 - 2030."
