Grape Varieties Baga. From ancient, low-yielding vines in Saima's oldest vinyard, Vinha da Corga, the Tonel 10 is made using traditional treading of grapes and natural fermentation in lagares. The wine is then aged in a large, seasoned, wooden vat for 12 months. Specifically vat number 10 (Tonel 10), which would ordinarily be used for the property’s top Garrafeira wine. Bottled without fining or filtration, this is a very traditional Baga in production and style. Only 4000 bottles released. Lighter than other Saima Cuvees, this is mid-intensity ruby at its core, with a brightness to the rim. The nose is plum and bramble fruit, with earthy spice and pine resin. The palate is light to medium in body, though full of red fruit and berry flavours, with an herbaceous touch. The tannins are plentiful but soft, due to the aging in vat, and combined with acidic structure delivers a linearity all the way through a long finish. Delicious now, but will easily cellar well for 10 years.
