This is a beautifully situated property, whose vineyards rub shoulders with those of Ch Latour à Pomerol, and also Ch Trotanoy, no less. Because its soils are so warm, it avoided total destruction by the devastating 1956 frosts. Those pre-1956 vineyards are being progressively replaced, but the average age of the property’s vines is still an impressive 40 years. The wine is assembled from 90% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc.
The colour is bright, purple-red, the nose being clean, ripe and vibrantly fruity. The palate is full-bodied and fleshy, with bouncy fruitiness, ripe tannins, and splendid length. One may start to open bottles of this when it is 5 years old, then enjoy it from bottles or magnums for a decade thereafter.
