The Block 6 vineyard dates back to 1892. Over 110 years later four acres still remain, cropping at extremely low levels, the fruit is of extreme quality. The wine is an excellent example of a big, rich and brooding McLaren Shiraz. After basket pressing and fermentation in open top fermenters built in 1896, the wine is matured for over 2 years in new American and Baltic oak producing intense flavour and great longevity.
WINE ADVOCATE 97 POINTS! - "There are 1,400 cases of the flagship cuvee, the Block 6 Shiraz, which is aged 28 months in 60% new American oak and 40% new Hungarian oak. Typically, it possesses between 15-16% alcohol and is always a candidate for twenty or more years of cellaring. Remarkably, a barrel sample of the 2005 Shiraz Block 6 performed even better than the 2004. It may be the best Block 6 Shiraz I have ever tasted. With drop-dead purity, richness, intensity, presence, and personality, it should drink well for 20-25 years. I can hardly wait for its release next year." Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate #211 Feb 2014.
