Description

Agostino Pavia & Figli is a small family company in the heart of the Barbera d’Asti production area. On about 9 hectares of vineyards extending over gentle slopes around the farmhouse, all located in the area of Agliano Terme, the winery produces three Barbera d’Asti crus: Bricco Blina, Moliss and La Marescialla. Bricco Blina is the name of the vineyard where the grapes were grown and Agostino Pavia & Figli is the producer. The nose is bright fruit and sour cherry with just a hint of white pepper. The flavours of red cherries, cranberries and raspberry are abundant in this lighter medium bodied red. There is plenty of acidity, and a smooth, lovely finish. It's a great Italian wine. The ideal pairing is risotto, ragu pork roasts, aged cheeses and salami.

Spagetti Bolognese

Perfect with a ragu...

If you follow the theory that what grows together goes together, then you should pair Bolognese with its home region – Italy, ideally from the north. Italian reds are the way to go with pasta Bolognese and other pasta and tomato based dishes. You will need some lively freshness and acidity in the wine to cut through the richness of the sauce, allowing a burst of red, ripe juicy fruit to shine through.

For a mid-week pairing we would go for an easy drinking red like Barbera from Piedmont. With its juicy cherry fruit and refreshing finish, it can stand up well to the acidity and richness of the sauce. This Barbera from Pavia & Figli is one to try!

Roast Duck

Also great with roast duck...

Classic roast duck would go beautifully with Barbera d’Asti such as this one or another Italian delicious wine like TRAMIN Lagrein from Alto Adige, the lighter tannins in the wine nicely mingle with the delicate game note from the duck, the cherries in this wine make it a great accompaniment to the duck with a redcurrant sauce for example, or a damson jus.
