This Sancerre rose comes exclusively from the Pinot grape variety. Vinified « en gris » which means that the grapes are pressed as soon as harvested, it is pressed in a pneumatic press and separated from the musts (juice). Jean-Paul Balland has handed over the running of the domaine to his two daughters - Burgundy-trained oenologist Isabelle makes the wines, and Elise runs an impressively efficient office. They have some 20 hectares with fine plots on Le Grand Chemarin and Le Chêne Marchand.
A bright pink/red colour, the initial bouquet offers the scent of roses, opening out into aromas of fresh almonds, peonies and spices. On the palate an excellent acidity associated with the fruity crispness of morello cherries. Floral nuances in the mid-palate are reinforced by ripe tannins, announcing a tangy, gourmet final. Food Matching: Starters, salad, aperitif, barbecues and white meat.
