The first vintage of the Vermentino to be produced was the 1996. The Guado al Tasso estate is located approximately 50 miles (80 kilometers) to the southwest of the city of Florence near the medieval hamlet of Bolgheri in the Tuscan Maremma. The property, some 2500 acres (1000 hectares) in overall size, extends from the Tuscan coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea to the inland hills. The estate, in addition to the grapes, the principal crop, cultivates wheat, corn, sunflowers, and olives as well.
TASTING NOTES: Straw yellow in colour with greenish highlights, the wine shows a fresh nose with aromatic notes which recall citrus fruit and flowers. The flavors are fruity and are well supported by the acidity and by mineral sensations which add savour, length, and vigour.
