While many enthusiasts have cellared Hamilton Russell Vineyards Chardonnay over the years, there are still a lot who only encounter the wine at a youthful stage. This vertical allows enthusiasts to really get to know our Chardonnay and its story of place over time and through different stages.

Each cellar aged bottle in the vertical carries a numbered print of a South African artwork from Anthony and Olive Hamilton Russell’s private collection. The aim is to distinguish a vintage not just by a number, but also by an image as well.
2015 – Moses Tladi
2016 – Richard Scott
2017 – Alfred Krenz

2015 The Wine Advocate 91 points
Drink Date: 2018 - 2028
"The 2015 Chardonnay has quite a rich, slightly honeyed bouquet with hints of hazelnut and smoke developing in the glass. The palate is rounded on the entry with supple, lightly honeyed fruit. There are light tangerine and even marmalade notes towards the finish, quite tangy in the mouth with a pleasant twist of sour lemon on the finish that urges you back for another sip. Very fine, although I wager that it will be eclipsed by the 2016." - Neal Martin, 28th Apr 2017

2016 The Wine Advocate 93 points
Drink Date: 2018 - 2028
"The 2016 Chardonnay underwent less malolactic than other vintages to preserve the acidity, around 40%, and the wine matured in 38% new oak for nine to ten months. Yields were very low at around 20 hectoliters per hectare. It is much less rich than the 2015, yet it displays finer delineation and perhaps more mineralité. The palate is very well balanced with superb tension, brimming full of energy and fanning out with nutmeg and smoked walnut notes towards the somewhat feisty finish." - Neal Martin, 28th Apr 2017

2017 The Wine Advocate 90 points
Drink Date: 2019 - 2028
"On the nose, the 2017 Chardonnay has all of the classic Chardonnay expressions at its core, showing apples, pears and creamy lemons with soft oak tones of nutmeg and a white-spiced minerality. The palate gives way to a textured and mouth-coating mid-palate with a lemony heart and a long, spiced cinnamon/green apple finish. The aftertaste is grippy, thoughtful and fine. With 71,556 bottles made, this represents a good-quality wine at a competitive price. Give it try!" - Anthony Mueller, 31st Oct 2019
