Since brothers Richard and Stéphane Martin took over from their father in the early '90s their estate of Domaine de la Croix Senaillet just outside the village of Davayé has gone from strength to strength, with a new winery and now around 25 hectares of vines spread over 52 separate plots they produce some of the most pleasurable wines in the appellation. The land and vineyard condition is paramount and so is farmed organically as well as holding Ecocert certification guaranteeing a respect for their environment. Their cru wine of La Grande Bruyere comes from a lieux-dit (named single vineyard) with a easterly exposure on a ridge near the Saint-Véran Pouilly-Fuisse border and is know to them as their "enfant terrible" cuveé!
One of their richest and most powerful of wines this rich and spicy southern white Burgundy is a true pleasure with some age-worthy potential. Aromas of ripe citrus and stone fruits with notes of honey and almond lead onto a soft and full palate with touches of exotic and wood spice but with that Saint-Véran typical fresh minerality running throughout. Try with grilled or roasted vegetables, white fish, or simply as an aperitif.
