Domaine Cailbourdin was set up from scratch in 1980 by Alain and Carmen Cailbourdin. They now have 16 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc split between the different crus of Pouilly and a well-earned reputation as one of the most dedicated growers of this appellation, producing wines with great concentration, purity and intensity of style. Vinfying each parcel seperately, Alain tries to bring out the different characteristics of the soil types while emphasising the complexity of the Sauvignon Blanc, a task that starts in the vineyards. From 2019 vintage, Cailbourdin could no longer call their cuvee “Les Cornets”, so they refreshed the look and named it Nanogyra. The wine now produced is exclusively from plots where the soil's limestone is particularly rich in fossils of small oysters called nanogyras virgulas. The name Nanogyra is therefore a nod to the shellfish that lived 140 million years ago and which now help to define the profile of the wine.
