When Michel Vigneau married Mlle Chevreau, the Domaine Vigneau-Chevreau was created uniting two properties and two families which have been making wine since 1875. Today, they and their sons have 28 hectares of vines, and they produce an impressive array of still, sparkling, sec, demi-sec and moelleux wines. Sec refers to this Vouvray being “dry,” and Cuvée Silex refers to the flinty stones that make up a large part of the vineyard’s chalky soil, contributing a minerally, almost sea-briny nuance beneath the Vigneau-Cheveau’s honeyed apple aroma, wildflower fragrance, and mildly tart, lush, flowing, refreshingly balanced, medium bodied feel on the palate. Wine Spectator: Jane Macquitty - "One of the very best dry vouvrays I've ever tasted from fully organic vineyards on ancient chalky slopes".
