Description
Armagnac is the oldest known French spirit drink with a registered designation of origin. In contrast to cognac, the Armagnac is distilled only once in a continuous firing process. This is followed by storage for 2 to 20 years.
The Baron Gaston Legrand estate, which belongs to the Lhéraud family, specializes in the production and storage of vintage armagnacs, and can offer vintages until 1802. When Armagnacs of different ages have been blended, the age on the bottle refers to the youngest component. French regulations stipulate that a VSOP Armagnac is made from a blend of eaux-de-vie of which the youngest has been aged for at least 4 years in oak. In practice, the Armagnac houses often use much older Armagnacs as they bring richer aromatics to the palate.
