Smells lovely, highly fragrant and open, expressive and generous. Sleek and slightly tense, a lovely focus and straightness though succulent too with black fruits, almost salty, firm tannins and an ample mouthfeel. High acidity offset by menthol, liquorice and clove spice. Juicy and approachable but still with bite and grip and Médoc typicity. 3.66pH. 95 IPT. From 50 hectares of vineyards in Listrac and Cussac, the 2021 Madame de Beaucaillou offers up aromas of dark berries, rich spices and loamy soil, followed by a medium-bodied, lively and charming palate that's underpinned by tangy acids. It's a Merlot-dominant blend complemented by 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Petit Verdot. Around one-third of the production was sold off in bulk to guarantee the quality of the assemblage. - William Kelley 04/23.
