Musar has assumed legendary status. Complex, long-lived and endlessly varied, in some vintages it seems more like a Burgundy, in others a Bordeaux, in still others a Hermitage. But it is always brilliantly, uniquely, Lebanese. Like all Chateau Musar red wines, it is a blend of Cinsault, Carignan and Cabernet-Sauvignon with the usual proportions (1/3). Fermented in cement vats with long maceration periods (up to 4 weeks) then aged 1 year in french oak, it was blended at the end of its second year (august 2001) and bottled in Summer 2002. Like Chateau Musar red wines : no additives, low sulphur level, no fining.
An exceptional vintage, 1999 produced a wine with plenty of power, richness and concentration, due to a relatively mild growing season which ended with a increased temperatures closer to harvest time. The wine is deeply coloured, dense and fleshy, with good fruit sweetness and plenty of smoky, chocolaty, spicy notes.
