International Chenin Blanc Day - 18th - 19th June 2021

It’s hard not to love Chenin Blanc. Chenin Blanc makes lithe, dry summer whites and sparkling wines. It also offers oak-aged styles with similar flavours to Chardonnay. Thus, there really is a Chenin Blanc wine for every occasion. It is versatile in style and sweetness and has the ability to adapt to a wide variety of tastes. We absolutely love it and it pairs brilliantly with so many foods too. It is perfect for teal, Chicken, turkey, pork chop, guinea foul, halibut, smoked salmon, pâte and even trout. You’ll find it pairs particularly well with foods that have a sweet and sour element so think Southeast Asian cuisine or pork chops with apples and when paired with a richer and sweeter style Chenin Blanc it will be knockout! A personal favourite is pairing it with the Christmas turkey especially the bolder more oaky Chenins.

Look to South Africa and the Loire Valley for the best Chenin Blancs. South Africa creates some superb straight Chenins but it is often also blended with Semillon, Viognier, and Marsanne to make a richer-styled wine similar to an oaked Chardonnay but with a sweeter taste. Also in South Africa, Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc are blended to create a fresh and zesty dry wine. If you look to Loire Valley, where the climate is cooler, higher acidity makes Chenin perfect for sparkling wines of if left to ripen more fully on the vine, the grapes are used in richly aromatic, off-dry styles.

We are delighted to offer these wines at special prices to celebrate International Chenin Blanc Day. If you haven't tried Chenin before, now is the perfect chance!
