Description
Max Blondelle and his team have an impressive array of vineyards to work with, taking in 38 appellations, including four Grands Crus and 13 Premiers Crus, and five “clos”, two of which form part of the monopole Chanzy vineyard. This collection features top sites in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. But the Chanzy name is particularly strong in the Côte Chalonnaise. Within this village Chanzy is the proud possessor of arguably the finest Aligoté vineyard in Burgundy, their monopole site ‘Clos de la Fortune.’
Over recent years Chanzy have invested in securing a sustainable environment for the future. Today, they are one of the few Burgundy producers to achieve Haute Valeur Environnementale Level 3 – the most highly regarded certification for sustainable agriculture in France.
A 35 year old vineyard, situated to the east of the village of Rully, the ‘La Crée’ vineyard is named after the stones that cover its surface. It sits directly below the premier cru vineyard ‘La Pucelle’ and being planted on chalk and limestone soils, is a vibrant and exciting wine.
This is a generous Rully, Max has increased maturity time to 16 months, giving us a more structured, rich adaptation of the appellation. It reminds us of a young St Aubin. Ripe apricot and pear on the nose lead to more exotic papaya fruit on the palate. This wine will be extraordinary in 3 years’ time.
