A Night to Remember at Botana: Celebrating the Wines of Ribera del Duero

Every so often, an evening comes along that reminds us exactly why we love what we do. Our recent wine dinner at Botana was one of those moments — a celebration of exceptional Spanish winemaking, food, and friendship in equal measure.
Hosted by José Sáez, Export Director for Grupo Pesquera, the evening shone a spotlight on some of Ribera del Duero’s most iconic estates: Condado de Haza and Tinto Pesquera. With over two decades in the wine world, José brought not just bottles, but stories — about the land, the people, and the pioneering spirit of the late Alejandro Fernández, the visionary winemaker behind these celebrated bodegas.
Each wine told a story of its own. Guests explored the depth and structure of Condado de Haza alongside the silky, expressive character of Tinto Pesquera, all perfectly paired with dishes crafted by Nina and her outstanding team at Botana. The pairings captured the essence of Spain, bold, generous, and full of heart.
Then came the showstopper: José unveiled a magnum of Alenza 1996, the very first vintage ever made. This extraordinary Tempranillo, sourced from old vines and aged with patience and precision, demonstrated just how gracefully the grape can evolve over time.

The evening was made possible by the wonderful collaboration between José from Tinto Pesquera, Steve from Armit Wines, Nina and her talented team at Botana, and Paul from Dunell’s, whose passion for bringing world-class producers to Jersey continues to make events like this possible.
As the night drew to a close, glasses were raised in celebration — of friendship, craftsmanship, and the enduring magic of great wine shared in great company.
