Meet Doug: A New (and Very Experienced) Face at Beaumont
9th October 2025

There’s a new friendly face behind the counter at our Beaumont store – and one with quite the wine story to tell.
Meet Douglas (aka Doug) McCrorie, who joined the Dunell’s team in late September 2025 as a Retail Sales Advisor. With almost 30 years in the wine trade, Doug brings a wealth of experience, global perspective, and passion for helping people discover their next favourite bottle.
A Career Steeped in Wine
Doug’s journey began at Oddbins in Manchester, where his love for wine first took root. From there, he moved into the world of wholesale, working with industry names like Matthew Clark, Bibendum, and most recently Henkell Freixenet.
Along the way, he earned his WSET Diploma (Level 4) — one of the highest qualifications in wine education — and travelled extensively, gaining first-hand insight into vineyards and producers around the world.
Beyond the Bottles
When Doug isn’t chatting to customers or recommending a hidden gem, you’ll likely find him running, cycling, singing in a choir, or scaling a Scottish mountain. (He’s also partial to a good karaoke session — with “I’m Gonna Be” by The Proclaimers being his go-to performance piece!)
He’s a lover of great oysters, shellfish, and good cheese, and describes moving to Jersey as one of his proudest achievements — “being brave, following my heart, and starting a new chapter.”
A Taste for the Classics
When it comes to wine, Doug’s palate leans towards France and Northern Italy. He has a soft spot for Bordeaux and Nebbiolo, though he’s equally fond of crisp whites and a well-made Chardonnay.
Some of his current favourites include:
A Perfect Fit for Dunell’s
Ask Doug what he enjoys most about working at Dunell’s, and his answer says it all:
“Every day is different — from the fascinating customers and incredible selection of wines to the local food and, of course, the most welcoming and knowledgeable team.”
We couldn’t agree more.
We’re absolutely delighted to have Doug on board — his warmth, knowledge, and passion for wine make him the perfect addition to the Dunell’s family.
Next time you’re in Beaumont, be sure to pop by and say hi — and maybe ask him for a wine recommendation (or a song request).
