Description
The 2014 Maison Bereche Grand Cru Mailly-Champagne is a superb expression from the renowned Ay grand cru, crafted by Vincent and Raphael Bereche, who since 2004 have become ambassadors for small-scale Champagne producers. This extra-brut showcases a rich, structured profile with hints of hedgerow fruits, toast, and soft spices on the nose. The palate is full-bodied, brimming with dark fruits and spicy shortbread, offering remarkable breadth, complexity, and allure. Critics praise its focus and vibrancy: William Kelley awards it 95 points, noting its long, saline, and concentrated finish, while VINOUS also scores it 95, highlighting its tension, minerality, and lively acids. Disgorged in November 2021 with only 4 g/L dosage, it pairs beautifully with chicken, monkfish, or Daal, and will continue to develop until 2040.
AMAZING !!!
*****
Vincent and Raphael Bereche took over the family estate back in 2004 and it has gone from strength to strength since, becoming real ambassadors for the small producers of Champagne. This Champagne comes from the wonderful grand cru of Ay which gives full bodied, structured wines. On the nose hints of hedgerow fruits, toast and soft spices. The palate is rich and full with plenty of dark fruits and spicy shortbread. Try pairing this Champagne with chicken dishes, monkfish or Daal.
So much breadth here, both in terms of aroma and flavour as well as general feel. Its all encompassing and incredibly alluring. Runs the full spectrum, from dense fruit through nuts and spices. Amazing. ABV: 12.5%

"The 2014 Grand Cru Mailly-Champagne is also showing very well indeed, revealing a more exuberantly fruit-driven bouquet than its 2013 sibling, featuring aromas of citrus oil, green pear, fresh pastry, beeswax and smoke. Medium to full-bodied, chalky and incisive, it's long and concentrated, with a resonant, saline finish." - William Kelley, 04/20.
VINOUS 95 points
The 2014 Extra-Brut Ay Grand Cru bristles with tension. It’s a great choice for readers who enjoy focused Champagnes. Red cherry, mint, crushed rocks, white pepper, sage and dried herbs give this mid-weight nervy Champagne tons of aromatic presence. Deep veins of minerality and vibrant acids shape the persistent, driving finish. Dosage is 4 grams per liter. Disgorged: November, 2021.
