*****

Dom Pérignon Rosé is only available as a vintage champagne and is only produced in exceptional years. Each vintage is a creation, singular and unique, that expresses both the character of the year, and is a tribute to Pinot Noir. To work with Pinot Noir continually requires excellence and humility and Dom Pérignon Rosé is the perfect balance of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Although it takes over ten years to reach the light of day, the colour of Dom Pérignon Rosé dares to express all the tension between youth and maturity, between exhibition and restraint.

Winemaker notes: After fleeting aromas of rose, orange oil and saffron, the bouquet becomes warmer, dominated by red fruit – raspberry and cherry – then somber touches of cassis and fig. Sweetness ultimately triumphs, with notes of gingerbread and licorice.

The fruit is majestic, ripe, fleshy and profound. After a markedly smooth and round initial mouthfeel, the wine nestles in the heart of the palate, settling with a sort of intimately intense caress. The power is contained, and the dominant impression is consistency. Sapid sensations converge and persist, leaving the memory of their tactile imprint.

A mind-blowing wine. This is super subtle and intense with aromas of peaches, light strawberry and cream. Also shows rose petal and cooked peaches. Medium to full body, with ultra-fine tannins that feel like fine silk. The finish goes on for mintutes. It floats across the palate. The winemaker says the closet vintage to this is the 1990, but I think this is better.

VINOUS 98 points
The 2009 Dom Pérignon Rosé is a sexy, racy wine that captures all the radiance of the year. Kirsch, blood orange, mint, spice and dried flowers unfurl in the glass. Soft, plush contours wrap it all together. Readers will find a Dom Pérignon Rosé endowed with tremendous textural depth and resonance. The 2009 is a total hedonistic turn-on. That's all there is to it. - Antonio Galloni

Dom Pérignon rosé 2009 arrives almost four years after the standard release, accordingly mature, expressive and open. Roughly equal proportions of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but with a still red wine addition normally in the region of 15% (no more precise details were available at the time of launch). It's a huge contrast from the 2008, showing the warmth of the year with approachable, fleshy apricot and blood orange flavours, rounded and saturated with ripe fruit at its heart but beautifully detailed with hibiscus, liquorice and dried red berry fragrance. While structured, it is less firm and vinous than the comparably warm 2006; a supple, fluid and sweet kind of ripeness with a gently persistent citric length. In comparison to the charming, pure 2008 Dom Pérignon Rosé, the 2009 Dom Pérignon Rosé possesses a ripe, dense bouquet with aromas of dark berries, licorice, dried white flowers, toast and pastry, enhanced by delicate, racy smoky hints. Full-bodied, broad and rich, it’s dense and phenolic due to the approximately 15% still red wine sourced from grapes planted in the villages of Hautvilliers, Aÿ and Bouzy, culminating in a protracted, sapid and chalky finish. Although already thoroughly enjoyable, it should age well over the next 10 years. This blend of 56% Pinot Noir and 44% Chardonnay was disgorged in March 2022 with a dosage of five grams per liter.

The latest rendition of the Dom Pérignon Rosé Champagne, the 2009, was released a few weeks ago. Traditionally, the rosé iteration of Dom Pérignon makes its debut after the release of its white counterpart. The 2009 Dom Pérignon Rosé matured for 13 years on the lees before being disgorged in March 2022 with a dosage of five grams per liter. A blend of 56% Pinot Noir and 44% Chardonnay, it derives from a warm year that yielded mature grapes, leading to Champagnes that are both robust and refined. Described as "generous and soft" by Vincent Chaperon, Dom Pérignon’s cellar master, the 2009 vintage began with a damp, rainy spring and transitioned into a hot, dry summer, setting the stage for a favorable harvest under excellent auspices.

More orange than pink. Honey, caramel, wild raspberry which still has a fresh-picked tanginess to it. On the nose, the yeastiness is surprisingly subdued, but the palate comes through with bakery and brioche, especially on the long, toasty finish. (RH)
