ABOUT THIS PRODUCT
Leclerc Briant Cuvée Abyss Brut Zéro 2017 is an extraordinary Champagne that has been capturing the attention of fine wine enthusiasts since its inception. This sixth release of Cuvée Abyss showcases a masterful blend of the three noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay, each contributing to the wine’s complexity and depth. After careful vinification, the wine is rested for 10 months in a combination of stainless steel and second-fill barriques sourced from prestigious estates, including Château d’Yquem and Châteaux Haut-Brion, before undergoing secondary fermentation.
What sets Cuvée Abyss apart is its unique aging process. Once disgorged, the wine embarks on an underwater journey, submerged at a depth of 60 meters off the coast of Brittany, where the Atlantic and the Channel converge. This remarkable environment, characterized by stable pressure and the absence of oxygen and light, creates the perfect conditions for the maturation of Champagne. The bioenergetic philosophy of Leclerc Briant is affirmed in this setting, as the wine experiences a year of tidal movement that imbues it with profound energy and an uplifting harmonic character.
Vinous awarded the 2017 Brut Zéro Abyss an impressive 92 points, highlighting its vibrant profile. The nose displays gentle aromas of fresh lemon intertwined with notes of raw, bubbling yeast dough. On the palate, the wine reveals the rounded generosity characteristic of the 2017 vintage, marked by a fine mousse. It concludes with a savory, Pinot-led freshness, complemented by a subtle touch of salty maple-syrup savor—a distinctive finish that enhances its complexity.
