Made only eleven times since 1976 (1976, 1979, 1985, 1988, 1990, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2006, 2007, 2008), Rare Champagne lives up to its name. Champagne legend Régis Camus is the Chef de Cave, whose meticulous winemaking has made him Sparkling Winemaker of the Year at the IWC eight times. The wine is born out of a struggle with nature – in 1976 it was after a period of exceptional drought, in 1985 following a terrible black frost. Bold and sensual, Rare Rosé's minerality pays tribute to the pure fresh style of Rare Champagne. The Champagne is crystal clear with a radiant, pale copper colour. The first aromas to emerge are redcurrant, almond and spring flowers, followed by more pronounced notes of lychee, pink grapefruit and sweet spice. Delicate, vibrant and expressive, Rare Rosé 2008 showcases all that is great about the vintage, resulting in a champagne of great length, complexity and longevity.
THE WINE ADVOCATE Rating 95+ - Drink Date 2021 - 2035 - "The 2008 Brut Rosé Cuvée Rare is the second rendition of this cuvée ever produced, and the wine is showing very well, unwinding in the glass with a youthfully shy nose featuring white cherries, blood orange, Meyer lemon, honeysuckle and dried white flowers that offers the promise of considerable complexity to come. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, racy and tight-knit, with good concentration, beautifully integrated acids and a fine mousse, concluding with a long, saline and delicately phenolic finish. This is really quite reserved after its recent disgorgement but should develop beautifully with a few years on cork."
