IN BRIEF
The ÉTUDES collection by Renegade Rum celebrates the unique qualities of sugar cane, emphasising the distinctive terroirs of Grenada. Each expression showcases a specific origin, allowing enthusiasts to explore the diverse flavours and characteristics derived from various cane varieties. The New Bacolet terroir, with its rugged terrain and steep, sun-drenched slopes, nurtures drought-resistant cane, particularly the sucrose-rich Lacalome Red harvested from the "Goat Hill" field. A surrounding forest enhances the microclimate, supporting the cultivation of four distinct terroirs. Renegade Rum’s meticulous approach to distillation and maturation highlights Grenada's rich agricultural heritage. Each bottling tells a compelling story, inviting drinkers on a sensory journey through the vibrant landscapes and traditions of Grenadian rum.
ABOUT THIS RUM
ÉTUDES celebrate the individuality of rum’s fundamental primary ingredient: sugar cane. Each expression in this exceptional range highlights a single terroir of cane, meticulously harvested, milled, distilled, matured, and bottled entirely on Grenada. The ÉTUDES bottlings provide an excellent opportunity for curious drinkers to compare and contrast the unique characteristics of rums distilled from a diverse array of cane origins, varieties, and provenances—the very building blocks of Renegade Cane Rum.
The New Bacolet terroir is notably more rugged than the nearby Old Bacolet, characterised by a natural amphitheatre that faces south, featuring steep, sun-baked slopes. Here, drought-resistant cane thrives on weathered upper slopes, while luxuriant growth emerges from the rich colluvial soils below. This geographical setup offers a textbook exploration of terroir, allowing the sugar cane to express its unique qualities.
For the New Bacolet rum, the sucrose-rich variety known as Lacalome Red was harvested from the "Goat Hill" field, located in the Upper Combe terroir. The unique characteristics of this terroir are further accentuated by the natural shelter provided by a forest to the north, contributing to the distinct microclimate. The sloped landscape presented challenges for cultivation, but four unique terroirs were identified over 10 acres, leading to a focused approach to planting. Both Yellow Lady and Lacalome Red varieties were initially cultivated, showcasing the rich agricultural heritage of Grenada.
Overall, the ÉTUDES collection by Renegade Rum highlights the artistry and commitment to quality winemaking, offering wine and spirit enthusiasts a fascinating insight into the diversity and complexity of rum. Each bottling captures a unique story of its origin, inviting you to embark on a sensory journey through Grenada's vibrant landscapes and rich traditions.
