Description

The Kraken Black Spiced Caribbean Rum is a visually striking, deeply hued spirit that delivers bold, layered flavours and a velvety mouthfeel. Crafted from a blend of Caribbean rums and a proprietary infusion of spices, it opens with a rich nose of blackstrap molasses, burnt sugar and dark caramel, underscored by warm baking spices such as cinnamon and clove and a bright thread of black pepper, plus subtle vanilla and toasted oak. On the palate it is full bodied and syrupy, immediately showcasing treacle and toffee before evolving into a complex spice profile: allspice and peppery heat mid palate, with bittersweet cocoa, leather and faint coffee roast notes adding depth. The oak influence provides restrained tannic structure and a whisper of char that keeps the sweetness grounded. The finish is long and warming, leaving lingering molasses, spice and a clean, slightly drying roasted note.

Cocktails

1) Kraken and Cola
50 ml The Kraken Black Spiced Rum
120 to 150 ml cola
Build in a highball glass over fresh ice, stir gently. Garnish: lime wedge.

2) Dark n Stormy
60 ml The Kraken Black Spiced Rum
100 to 120 ml ginger beer
10 to 15 ml fresh lime juice optional
Highball with ice, pour rum, top with ginger beer, squeeze lime. Garnish: lime wheel.

3) Kraken Espresso Martini
45 ml The Kraken Black Spiced Rum
30 ml cooled espresso
15 to 20 ml coffee liqueur such as Kahlúa
10 to 15 ml simple syrup to taste
Shake with ice, double strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish: three espresso beans or light cocoa dust.

4) Kraken Old Fashioned
60 ml The Kraken Black Spiced Rum
8 to 12 ml demerara syrup or one sugar cube plus a dash of Angostura
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Stir with ice, strain into a rocks glass over one large ice cube. Garnish: orange twist and a Luxardo cherry optional.

5) Kraken Rum Punch
60 ml The Kraken Black Spiced Rum
60 ml fresh pineapple juice
30 ml orange juice
15 to 20 ml lime juice
15 ml grenadine or demerara syrup to taste
Shake with ice, strain into a Collins glass over ice. Garnish: pineapple wedge and grated nutmeg or cinnamon.

6) Kraken Hot Toddy
45 to 50 ml The Kraken Black Spiced Rum
15 ml honey or demerara syrup
15 ml lemon juice
Hot water to top
Stir in a heatproof mug. Garnish: cinnamon stick and lemon wheel.
