Description
Impossible not to nose this and think of Islay: no other aroma so perfectly encapsulates the island - clean despite the rampaging peat-reek and soft oak, raggy coast-scapes and screeching gulls - all in a glass; one of the crispiest, peaty malts of them all, the barley standing out alone, brittle and unbowed, before the peat comes rushing in like the tide: iodine and soft salty tones; the peat now takes control for a sweet, distinguished finish; quite light compared to of old with the peat taking a more subdued, harmounious stance. But it is every bit as good if not better simply because there is now clearer definition and shape.

A Deeper Dive;
Laphroaig Distillery
Laphroaig Distillery, situated on the southern coast of Islay in Scotland was founded in 1815 by Donald and Alexandrina Johnston boasting a rich history intertwined with tradition and innovation. This iconic distillery utilizes locally sourced barley, malting on-site, while the nearby peat bogs provide the signature smoky flavour that defines its whiskies.
Set against stunning coastal scenery and rolling hills, Laphroaig benefits from the pure spring water sourced from the Kilbride Stream, which enhances the quality of its spirits. With a diverse range of expressions, from the classic 10-Year-Old to the intensely peated Quarter Cask and limited editions, Laphroaig continues to exemplify the craftsmanship and heritage that underscore its esteemed reputation in the whisky world.
Perched on the shoreline, Laphroaig is exposed to the full force of the Hebridean Sea, creating a distinctive and resilient atmosphere. The distillery's name translates from Gaelic as "the beautiful hollow by a broad bay," perfectly capturing its serene surroundings. Alongside us flows the cherished Kilbride Stream, while the rich Islay peatland has been a vital part of its whisky-making tradition for over 200 years.
