Description

Superbly situated property close to Château d'Yquem. Its history dates back to the early 17th century and it was classified Premier Grand Cru in 1855. Howwever, in 1885 the Peyraguey estate was split in two, the other half being Lafaurie Peyraguey. In 2012 it was acquired by Bernard Magrez, owner of Pape Clément in Pessac. It now consists of twelve hectares, 95% Sémillon with a bit of Sauvignon. It produces a traditional rich and concentrated Sauternes.

Antonio Galloni 94 points - "The 2018 Clos Haut-Peyraguey deftly marries opulence with energy. Apricot jam, orange confit, , marzipan, pineapple and mint build in the glass. From bottle, the Clos Haut-Peyraguey shows a touch more power than it did as a barrel sample. Even with all of its richness, the 2018 shows quite a bit of vibrancy as well, and that makes for compelling drinking. I imagine a few years in the cellar will only help. Anticipated maturity: 2024-2043."

Neal Martin The Wine Advocate 93 points - "The 2018 Clos Haut-Peyraguey has a perfumed nose of yellow flowers, almond and peachy notes, plus a touch of crushed stone tucked underneath. The palate is very well balanced with lemon sherbet, apricot and dried honey on the entry. This feels very cohesive, not powerful but delineated, and quite persistent on the finish. Excellent. Anticipated maturity: 2024-2048."
