Description
Adrian Bridge, Managing Director of Taylor’s, states: “Experiencing the Taylor’s VVOP is a rare privilege. Drawn from Taylor’s treasury of very very old cask-aged reserves, this VVOP confirms Taylor’s place as a leader in the production of the finest cask aged Ports of great age.” and adds: “We are delighted to be able to share with port lovers world-wide this masterpiece of cask ageing.”
“The Taylor’s VVOP represents the legacy of ancestral knowledge passed down from one generation to the next; the skill of Taylor’s practised team of coopers, who crafted the casks and maintained them over the years; the expertise of the cellar masters, who cared for the wine during the decades in wood; and the art of the blenders, who have given the VVOP its exceptional balance and finesse,” explains David Guimaraens, Taylor’s Head winemaker. The Taylor’s VVOP will be presented in a bespoke decanter and an elegant luxury wooden case. Only 3,000 bottles have been produced.

‘Legally we can’t say this is 100 years old’, says Adrian Bridge, because the official records of Douro vineyards date only from 1933. Tasted from a glass tube in a handsome, recycled wooden box. Perhaps where it was aged distinguishes it from the Platinum Jubilee edition? Bridge thinks it may have been stored underground.
Dark blackish chestnut colour with a yellow rim. Very pure, smooth fruit – remarkable for its age – with no excess acidity or painfully marked rancio character. (JR)
