Description
Based in Pommard, Domaine Comte Armand dates back to 1828 and is ranked amongst the greatest red wine producers in Burgundy. For almost 170 years the domaine produced wine from a small 5 hectare monopole called Clos des Epeneaux. It wasn’t until 1994 that the domaine expanded and began tending to vines in Volnay and later Auxey-Duresses, taking the total size of the domaine to 9 hectares. The modern era effectively began with Pascal Marchand, who was succeeded as winemaker by Benjamin Leroux. When Ben left in 2014 to focus on his own business, Paul Zinetti took the reins. Zinetti has continued to deliver some outstanding terroir-driven wines and maintains the biodynamic principles established by his predecessor.
In 2024 Paul Zinetti only harvested 20% of a normal yield, due to poor floraison and hail. No wholebunch was used at all in this vintage.
Auxey-Duresses is a sloped south-facing parcel that has particular geology for this section of vineyard, the vines are 40 years old on the average. It is one of the most calcareous areas of the Côte de Beaune (30% active limestone).
Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy 87-89 points
:"Full purple with a brighter rim. Rather dense, nuts and chocolate nose. Currently quite a lot of oak but this will refine. Crunchy red fruit with an iron blood orange aspect". Drink from 2028-2030. Tasted Oct 2025.
Neal Martin - Vinous 89-91 points
:"The 2024 Auxey-Duresses Village suffered less mildew damage due to steep slopes and is aged in around 20% new oak. It has a pleasant nose, good intensity for a Village Cru, potpourri bubbling up amongst the red fruit. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with quite thick, grippy tannins, making this feel more like a Premier Cru. Quite compact on the finish, this should fan out after bottling. Very satisfying." Drink 2027-2038
