Description
Founded in 1985, this domaine reflects the remarkable heritage of Jean-Marc Boillot – grandson of the legendary Etienne Sauzet. Before establishing his own domaine, Jean-Marc was the winemaker at Olivier Leflaive. He initially worked with rented vines before inheriting parcels from Sauzet in 1988, later receiving a third share from Sauzet through his grandmother in 1991. Jean-Marc is now retired, and the estate has been run since 2016 by his daughter Lydie and her husband François Alzingre. Based as it is on the outskirts of Pommard, the domaine is sometimes overlooked as a prime source of Puligny-Montrachet. Yet it oversees an exceptional stretch of vineyards climbing the slope on the Meursault border, alongside holdings in Volnay, Pommard, the Côte Chalonnaise, the Mâconnais and even the Languedoc.
In 2024, the domaine saw a relatively perfect 50-50 split between their reds and whites. Lydie described the 2024 vintage as full of freshness and tension, and this was clear throughout our tasting. Everything was fermented in barrel, with a moderate 15-20% new oak across all Premiers Crus to allow terroir expression to remain front and centre.
One change is the whites, up to the Montagny 1er Cru, are now bottled under DIAM 5 closures. The wines are mostly at 12.5 to 13%, with some help. The whites are up to their usual excellent standard. This domaine is sometimes forgotten as being one of the leading Puligny-Montrachet producers, simply because it is domiciled elsewhere.
Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy - 90 points / 4 stars
:"A luminous green edge to the colour. Rather a fine nose, very much Montagny in style, to some extent chiselled but with more than adequate flesh behind on the palate. White fruit with the extra tension, crunchy stones on the palate. Drink from 2027-2029. Tasted Oct 2025."
