Description
The 2020 Les Forts de Latour is a powerful and structured expression, often rivaling many Grand Cru Classé estates in quality. In the glass, it displays a deep garnet-purple hue. The nose is expressive and rich, offering aromas of crème de cassis, black plums, and wild blueberries, layered with hints of cedar chest, pencil lead, and a touch of dried herbs.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with a dense core of black fruit. The tannins are firm yet ripe and grainy, providing a solid backbone typical of the Pauillac terroir. There is a lovely freshness that cuts through the richness, leading to a long, mineral-laced finish. While approachable sooner than the Grand Vin, this is a serious wine with significant aging potential.
Typical Blend: Approximately 60-70% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the remainder being mostly Merlot and a small percentage of Petit Verdot.
Critics scores
:95/100 - Neal Martin, Vinous
The 2020 Les Forts de Latour has a fresh, delineated, precise and focused bouquet of graphite-infused black fruit. The oak is neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid black fruit, fine depth and ample grip. This builds momentum toward a structured finish, with a dash of spice lingering on the aftertaste. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. DRINKING WINDOW 2030 - 2060.
95/100 - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Independent
A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26.5% Merlot, and 3.5% Petit Verdot, the 2020 Les Forts de Latour is deep garnet-purple colored. The nose is very closed to begin, slowly offering glimpses at crushed blackberries, mulberries, and cassis notes, followed by hints of aniseed, black truffles, and underbrush. The medium-bodied palate is very tightly wound with loads of vibrant black fruit and earthy layers and a firm, grainy backbone, finishing long with a compelling lift. DRINKING WINDOW 2026 - 2055.
