Description

An excellent Beaujolais made by a leading Burgundian family. Louis shares his cellar with his other half, Ghislaine Barthod in Chambolle Musigny where the wines age alongside some of the best Pinot Noirs. He is part of the Boillot family from Volnay, which explains the quantity of his vineyard holdings in the Côte de Beaune.

Louis makes 16 wines from less than seven hectares – many of which are notable for the exceptional age of their vines. He expanded into Moulin-à-Vent in 2013, fulfilling a long-held ambition.

'Les Rouchaux' comes from a one-hectare plot on pink granite, aged in a mix of 500l and 228l barrels. It is always quite structured for Gamay with lots of sophistication of his Cote d’Or Pinots but with the juicy, pretty, peppery texture of Beaujolais. It has a bright summer-pudding bouquet with hints of wild rose, minerality and a little smokiness. Very intense and surprisingly long.
