Description

The Bouzereau clan is widespread in Meursault, with Domaine Michel Bouzereau at the forefront. Jean-Baptiste took over the 10.5-hectare domaine from his father, Michel, in 1999. He inaugurated a new winery and cellar in 2009. This has afforded Jean-Baptiste more control over each tank and barrel; the wines are more refined and expressive as a result. Some red wine is made but rarely exported; the domaine’s reputation is built on its whites, principally Meursault. The winemaking is uncomplicated, with a slow pressing followed by a maturation on lees, over two winters for the top wines. There’s no bâtonnage; longer lees contact is preferred. Vineyard health is prioritised, but no certification is sought.

Les Grands Charrons is a healthy, well-situated two-hectare lieu-dit, at the same altitude as the Premiers Crus. There are five parcels (40-60 years old), with 60% higher up the slope, where the limestone is more evident. This is very poised, with a creamy, positive entry and some citrus and salty notes to finish.
