Description
Patrick Javillier is now one of Meursault's best growers. An electrical engineer by training, he later studied oenology in Dijon before taking over his father's small Meursault estate. He gradually expanded the vineyard holdings to over 9 hectares and has been estate bottling his wines since 1990. Patrick is one of the most reflective of white wine makers, the walls of his cellars and the sides of his barrels being covered in chalk where he has been developing one or another of his theories. Most of the wines are taken out of barrel after a year, then matured further in tank on their fine lees.
'Cuvee Oligocene' Bourgogne comes from a Bourgogne-level vineyard on the Puligny-Montrachet side of Meursault. It is vinified as crus and have all the character of real Meursaults. The domaine has just under one hectare here. There’s a stinging energy to the wine, and a lot of drive and verve. It finishes on a salty, spicy note. This has a lot going on for a wine of this level, with texture, density and freshness.
Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy - 87-88 points / 4 stars
:"A fullish lemon yellow. Less opulent, slightly more limestone on the nose. The fruit is ripe here as well, yet much more orchard fruit in style, with more of a backbone, pure white fruit through the middle with some ripe pear at the very back. Fills the mouth, staying fresh and very persistent. Drink from 2027-2030." Tasted Nov 2025.
