Description
Ridge's Lytton Springs, first produced in 1972, is sourced from century-old vines planted in the gravelly clay soils of Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys. Both the eastern and western portions of the vineyard were purchased in the early 1990s. The vineyard is planted to Zinfandel and its principal complementary varieties.
The 2024 vintage followed a second year of generous rainfall, which revitalised the old vines. A brief July heat spike created some pressure for Carignane and Petite Sirah, but Zinfandel remained resilient, producing exceptional colour and tannin concentration. Twenty-two parcels were selected for their texture, balance and structural integrity before being combined and aged for sixteen months in air-dried American oak barrels. The vintage is defined by fine tannins, moderate ripeness and focused, energetic fruit.
Vibrant and expressive on the nose, the 2024 Lytton Springs offers layers of blackberry, raspberry and dark plum, lifted by peppery spice and subtle floral notes. The palate is bold yet poised, with firm tannins and bright acidity driving its depth and precision. Accents of vanilla, liquorice and crushed stone linger on the long, refined finish. This is an elegant and complex expression of Lytton Springs, shaped by century-old vines and diverse plantings, and has the structure to evolve beautifully over the next decade.
