Description
Aromatic and layered, with notes of ripe blackberry, plum, and cherry, complemented by hints of spice, herbs, and a touch of earthiness. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, smooth, and velvety. Flavours of dark fruit, black pepper, and a hint of cocoa unfold, leading to a long, savoury finish. A versatile, well-structured wine that pairs beautifully with grilled meats and hearty dishes. 14.5%

This, the 'baby' brother of the Barrua, from younger vines but still an absolute cracker of a wine with really attractive soft, warm dark plummy fruit soft tannins and lovely length. Tremendous value too. Agricola Punica was founded by Sebastiano Rosa, the winemaker at Sassicaia and the late Tuscan wine consultant Giacomo Tachis in the south eastern corner of the island of Sardinia, a DOC called Carignano del Sulcis. Made from old vine Carignan, with Cabernet and Merlot , the addition of other grapes to the indigenous Carignan means it can only have the generic IGT Isola dei Nuraghi.

ntense and rich nose of plums, blackcurrants, spices and dried herbs. Full-bodied, structured and dense, with juicy acidity and velvety tannins. Nicely filled with dark fruit. Drink or hold.

The 2022 Isola dei Nuraghi Montessu is hauntingly dark with a slowly evolving bouquet of cedar shaving, sage, incense and dried black cherry aromas. It’s surprisingly juicy in character yet silken in feel, with depths of ripe red berry fruits complemented by hints of autumnal spice and citrus. A tinge of graphite minerality adds lovely depth as this finishes potent and gently tannic. - Eric Guido
