Description
The name Conus, Latin for cone, is a reference to the talus cone above the winery's town of Magrè. This cone is an accumulation of rock and scree that has fallen off the dolomitic limestone cliff behind it, forming a gentle slope of loose limestone soil. Alois Lageder has been growing Lagrein grapes on the Magrè talus cone for more than a decade and has found that the calcareous nature of the soil is one of the keys to this wine's round and fruity character. Pairs well with roasted red meats like beef, lamb and venison; cheeses such as aged Gruyere and aged Pecorino, and most mushroom-based dishes.
