Description

IN BRIEF
Alpha Zeta Valpolicella Superiore 'R' Ripasso is a distinguished wine that showcases the craftsmanship of the Valpolicella region. After fermentation, it is aged for just over a year in a blend of large oak and small French oak barrels, resulting in a refined and complex character. The wine exhibits a captivating ruby red color and offers a concentrated perfume of red and black cherries, enhanced by the dried cherry intensity from the ripasso process. On the palate, it is full-bodied and well-balanced, with an opulent cherry-pie character complemented by a supple structure. The finish is long and satisfying, featuring a mouthwatering bitter-cherry twist. Composed of 80% Corvina and 20% Rondinella/Corvinone, this wine is a delightful choice for any occasion.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Alpha Zeta was established in 1999 by David Gleave and New Zealand winemaker Matt Thompson with a vision to create a range of modern, fruit-forward wines sourced from the picturesque hills outside Verona, Italy. The partnership focuses on working closely with local growers, employing practices that prioritise the production of high-quality grapes through reduced yields and later harvesting. This commitment to quality ensures that each wine embodies the distinct character of the region.

The meticulous winemaking process begins with grape harvesting in mid-September, allowing the fruit to reach optimal ripeness. After picking, the grapes are carefully placed in specially ventilated drying rooms, where they remain until the end of January. This drying process enhances the concentration of flavours and sugars in the grapes, critical for the production of Alpha Zeta's signature styles. Once the drying period is complete, the grapes are destemmed and crushed, ready for fermentation.

Alpha Zeta’s portfolio features a variety of wines that showcase the vibrant fruit characteristics and terroir of the region. By focusing on indigenous varietals such as Corvina, Rondinella, and Sangiovese, as well as international varieties, the winery creates a harmonious blend of traditional and contemporary styles. Each wine reflects the rich heritage of the Veneto region, while also appealing to modern palates.

The innovative approach, combined with a dedication to sustainable practices and solid relationships with local growers, has placed Alpha Zeta on the map as a leading producer in the region. Wine enthusiasts appreciate the approachable elegance and vibrant expressions found in each bottle, making Alpha Zeta a celebrated choice among both casual drinkers and connoisseurs.

Through its commitment to quality and its unique processing techniques, Alpha Zeta continues to push the boundaries of winemaking in the Veneto, inviting consumers to experience the delightful flavours and stories behind these modern Italian wines. Whether enjoyed with a meal or as an everyday indulgence, Alpha Zeta wines offer an enticing glimpse into the essence of the region's viticulture.
